Virtual Move and Data Migration Strategy
With a firm belief that success is the result of thorough planning, TDS relies on a systematic approach to migrating physical hardware to a virtualized environment (P2V), and moving existing virtual hosts onto more redundant and scalable infrastructures (V2V).
Our approach consists of 3 phases:
Phase 1
- Your current environment is documented and audited for CPU load, memory thresholds, bandwidth utilization, energy consumption, and a number of other critical host resources.
- Environment needs are analyzed with the client to construct the proper next generation virtual infrastructure.
- Current capacity requirements, security, and future growth are considered, and a framework strategy is designed.
- Once the strategy is approved, hardware and software is sourced and purchased.
Phase 2
- Hardware for new virtualized destination environment is installed.
- Physical to virtual migrations are conducted on existing test candidates.
- Successful migration of test candidates to the virtual environment is verified by TDS and client staff.
Phase 3
- Utilizing best of breed technologies, along with expertise gained from numerous successful migrations, conversion of physical machines to virtual machines begins.
- Existing virtual machines are migrated to new hardware and improved resources.
- End to end performance and reliability testing is conducted to ensure complete success.
- If tests find unacceptable performance or other issues, rollback to physical or original virtual guests is available and can be performed quickly.
