It is quite common for data center design and relocations to be outside the core focus of most IT organizations (at least in magnitude if nothing else).

Steady state IT staffing and hiring is typically oriented to day-to-day operations - not data center startups and relocations.

We can perform an initial assessment and help you  develop an optimum transition.

  • Successful Data Center Transitions

Transitional Data Services has planned and relocated over a hundred data centers of all sizes including Monster.com. Our clients save time, money and the aggravation of unforeseen issues.

TDS has seen a pattern of success with methodical assessment, planning and implementation.

Business Objectives - core business needs will drive many of your decisions.  Questions to ask: When will new customer facing and mission critical services be added (or replaced)? Do business needs dictate a Tier II, III or IV data center design? If net expense reduction is a desired outcome, are the technical alternatives (servers, virtualization, etc.) being evaluated on a total cost basis? By starting with the business goals, you will be able to better analyze options from an implementation risk and total cost perspective.

Technical Assessment – with a clear understanding of the business requirements, you can evaluate alternatives in context of the primary business goals. You may discover some services will benefit from a hardware upgrade, others may benefit from virtualization and others may be nearing end-of-life - making anything other than a standard move too risky.

Planning - Whether it is a new data center or a relocation project, flawless execution will require significant upfront planning. This includes preliminary design, readiness assessment and preparatory remediation. Questions to be considered include: What down time is acceptable for each functional application? What interdependencies exist that require specific clusters of systems to be moved together? What staff is available... and could outside resources accelerate the plan while lowering risk?

Implementation – Once the above steps are completed, a methodical installation or data center relocation can be achieved. Operational improvements identified during the technical assessment can be undertaken where they provide the best value and the least risk – whether prior to the transition event, during the installation / relocation or at a more optimum later date.

    Spotlight

"TDS helped us with our initial data center design, build-out and migration three years ago. They provided us with a scalable, highly redundant server and network architecture and have continued to provide 24x7 data center operations.

"Since then, TDS has helped us grow our server farm by 3X and network traffic by 10X, all of which has allowed us to become a top 10 travel web site.

"I have recommended TDS to a number of colleagues who have enjoyed similar success."
