New Capabilities Rolled Out for TransitionManager Built to Address the Jobs to be Done with Migrations and Modernizations

In the well known book, Competing Against Luck, Clayton Christensen and his team presents evidence and a compelling argument that if a company wants to drive innovation, they need to think differently. Traditionally, many company leaders believed that you can develop products and services simply by knowing the customer. But Christensen believes that understanding customers does not drive successful innovation. Instead, he argues that you must understand what jobs the customer is trying to accomplish.

Once you understand what causes customers to hire a product or service, any business can drive innovation, creating products that customers not only want, but that they’ll pay premium prices to bring into their lives. The “Jobs to Be Done” approach can be seen in some of the world’s most respected companies, including Amazon, Intuit, Uber, Airbnb, andChobani yogurt, to name just a few.

Transitional Data Services (TDS) was founded with a mission to create a better method to perform data center migrations and modernizations. Our focus remains the same today — we are in the messy business of helping IT leaders orchestrate technology change for the enterprise with greater speed and efficiency and less risk. Our team of practitioners understand and advise our customers on how to manage the complicated processes, tools, and data needed to orchestrate migrations and modernizations

Early in our history, TDS created TransitionManager software to improve the entire process for migrating and modernizing — from discovery, to analysis and planning, through runbook development and final execution of the migration waves. The software incorporates the lessons learned from decades of experience, our established methodology, detailed analysis and intelligent use of automation.

We continue to evolve TransitionManager’s capabilities, focusing first on what problem we are trying to solve for the customer. For enterprise architects and cloud professionals, finding the right information and leveraging the variety of tools available to plan and manage IT transformation projects is challenging and complex. TransitionManager addresses this complexity by providing users with a highly productive and interactive user experience to manage their day-to-day activities faster, while driving efficiency and reducing risk. The platform’s interactive dependency analyzer has been enhanced to support new application types and deliver better performance for large enterprise environments. New features also include a powerful rules engine and customizable dashboards and reports that allow users to spend dramatically less time searching for the right information to make decisions and then leverage automation to streamline both human and machine tasks.

TransitionManager’s new capabilities include:

  • Interactive, Real-Time Discovery Dashboards: Application, device, database, and logical storage assets, dependency relationships, and task related data are made available to users through interactive dashboards and reports, which provide filtering and drill-down access to critical metrics and actionable insights.
  • Self-service Analytics and Reporting: With new self-service capabilities inside TransitionManager, users will be able to perform ad hoc queries and generate reports which can be easily exported to multiple formats suitable for input into third party reporting tools. The underlying data model offers quick understanding and straightforward data access, empowering users to get the information they need, when they need it, without involving the tech team.
  • Enhanced Flexibility in its Rules Engine:  The TransitionManager rules engine applies business rules to data for data quality and management and improved decision support. Now, new scripting language enhancements simplify the process of writing rules and enable teams to rapidly iterate through different scenarios to choose the best path to automate the complex and error-prone processes of creating affinity groups, migration waves and overall schedules.

Our ongoing analysis and customer and partner feedback confirms that we offer a powerful platform that yields efficiencies and reduced costs from better use of staff time and resources and a resilient, agile, and efficient IT infrastructure for the customers. And, perhaps even more important, we believe that after the project is completed, customers will not only achieve their financial and technical goals but will have established a sustainable model for managing future growth; a model that will be fully aligned with the overarching business and IT strategies and leverage industry best practices. While our approach to transformation is firmly rooted in best practices, we listen to the client, understand their specific characteristics, culture and requirements, and take a non-dogmatic, nimble, customized, purposeful approach to implementation and improvements to our platform.

This separates us from other firms and earns us repeat business. Check us out to learn more today!
